Scholarships and Grants

The Elias Foundation, in conjunction with the Deutsche Literaturarchiv Marbach (DLA), offers  scholarships twice each year for the development of, and research into, the legacy of Norbert Elias.

Scholarships are divided into three categories according to academic qualifications: postdoctoral scholarships, graduate scholarships and short-term scholarships for Master and Staatsexamen candidates.

The scholarship rates amount to:

• Postdoctoral scholarships: 1,500 Euro
• Graduate scholarships: 1,000 Euro
• MA scholarships: a one-month stay at the Collegienhaus.

The postdoctoral fellowship primarily serves the promotion of junior scientists (archive visits and accommodation). However, other highly qualified applicants (postdoctoral researchers, scientists with tenure, freelance scientific authors and editors) may also apply.

Scholarship holders working at universities outside Germany can apply for a travel allowance. The maximum funding period is four months.
