Invitation to the Center of Figurational Research (Warsaw) seminar

Centre of Figurational Research at the Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw invites you to a
lecture by professor Jason Hughes (University of Leicester) entitled From smoking pasts to vaping
futures: tobacco use and figurational research on 11 May 2023, 16:00, in room 104 at the Faculty of
Sociology UW (Karowa 18) and online (on Zoom).

How do smoking-related customs and manners change? How do smokers shape their “careers”? What
does the transition from traditional cigarettes to e-cigarettes and vapes tell us about larger societal
transformations, and how to research tobacco use in figurational perspective? These are only some of
the questions which will be answered during the lecture.
